Ribalta originally referred to the footlights at the front of a theatre stage, then to the hinged front flap of a stage (or a writing bureau). Figuratively and most commonly today, tornare alla ribalta means 'to return to the spotlight' or 'to come back into the public eye'. It is feminine: la ribalta, le ribalte.
