Also means
fugitive
Usage Note
Ricercato functions both as a noun (a wanted person: il ricercato, i ricercati) and as an adjective. As an adjective it can mean 'wanted by police' or, separately, 'refined, sought-after' (uno stile ricercato = a refined style). Learners should note this polysemy: un criminale ricercato (a wanted criminal) vs un gusto ricercato (refined taste) are entirely different registers.
Examples
"Il ricercato è stato arrestato ieri."
Natural Translation
The wanted man was arrested yesterday.
