ricordare

to remember

verb ree-kor-DAH-reh Common

Origin: From Latin recordari (to call to mind), from cor/cordis (heart).

Also means

to remind

Usage Note

Ricordare can mean 'to remember' intransitively (mi ricordo) or 'to remind someone' transitively (ti ricordo che...). The reflexive ricordarsi (di) is the most natural form for 'to remember': mi ricordo di lui ('I remember him'). It uses avere as auxiliary in compound tenses.

Examples

"Mi ricordo ancora quel giorno."

Natural Translation

I still remember that day.

Literal Translation

To-me I-remember still that day.
