Rinvio comes from rinviare ('to send back / to postpone') and is used in legal, parliamentary, and general administrative language for a deferral or postponement (rinvio a giudizio = 'referral to trial'). In everyday speech posticipo or rimando may be preferred for a simple delay. Plural: rinvii.
