risvegliare

to reawaken

verb ree-zveh-LYAH-reh Rare

Also means

to revive

Usage Note

Risvegliare combines ri- (again) with svegliare (to wake), so it literally means to wake someone or something up again. It is often used figuratively — risvegliare la curiosità (to reawaken curiosity) or risvegliare i ricordi (to stir up memories). The reflexive risvegliarsi means to wake up oneself and takes essere as auxiliary.
