rivoltoso

rebel, insurgent

noun ree-vohl-TOH-zoh Rare

Usage Note

Rivoltoso can be both a noun (un rivoltoso = a rebel) and an adjective (una folla rivoltosa = a rebellious crowd). As a noun it is masculine; the feminine is rivoltosa. It emphasises someone who revolts or rises up against authority, overlapping with ribelle but with a stronger sense of active insurrection rather than general defiance.

Examples

"I rivoltosi presero il controllo della piazza."

Natural Translation
