Usage Note

Roccioso derives from roccia (rock) and describes terrain or surfaces characterized by rocks. A key example is le Montagne Rocciose (the Rocky Mountains). The feminine is rocciosa, the plural forms are rocciosi and rocciose. It contrasts with sabbioso (sandy) and erboso (grassy).
