rubrica

address book

noun roo-BREE-kah Rare

Origin: Latin rubrica (red heading), from ruber (red) — headings were written in red ink

Also means

column, section (in a publication)

Usage Note

Rubrica has two distinct everyday senses: a personal contacts/address book (la rubrica del telefono) and a regular column or segment in a newspaper or TV programme (una rubrica settimanale). The plural rubriche is regular. Do not confuse with rubrica in the bureaucratic sense of 'heading' or 'label,' which is a third, rarer sense.

Examples

"Ho il tuo numero nella mia rubrica."

Natural Translation

I have your number in my address book.
