Scasso derives from scassare (to break open) and refers to a forced entry, particularly furto con scasso ('burglary', lit. 'theft with break-in'). This compound is a standard legal and police term. As slang, scasso can also mean something broken or worn-out: questa macchina è uno scasso ('this car is a wreck').
