Usage Note
Sfogare means to release pent-up emotion or pressure. The reflexive form sfogarsi is the most common: Ho bisogno di sfogarmi (I need to vent). Non-reflexively it can describe releasing something outward: sfogare la rabbia (to vent one's anger). It takes avere when transitive and essere in the reflexive.
Examples
"Devo sfogarmi con un amico."
Natural Translation
I need to vent to a friend.
Literal Translation
I-must vent-myself with a friend.
