Usage Note
Sopravvivenza is always feminine (la sopravvivenza). It is used in both literal contexts (la sopravvivenza dei feriti, the survival of the wounded) and figurative ones (la sopravvivenza di una tradizione, the survival of a tradition). The related verb is sopravvivere, which takes essere as its auxiliary in compound tenses: è sopravvissuto (he survived).
