Usage Note
Sottoscritto is the formal first-person term used in official documents meaning 'the undersigned' — equivalent to 'I, the undersigned' in English legalese (Il sottoscritto dichiara che… — 'The undersigned declares that…'). The feminine is la sottoscritta. Outside bureaucratic writing it rarely appears, and using it in conversation sounds humorously pompous.
Examples
"Il sottoscritto chiede un rimborso."
Natural Translation
The undersigned requests a refund.
