Usage Note
Sottoscrittore derives from sottoscrivere (to sign, to subscribe) and refers to someone who signs a document, subscribes to a publication, or underwrites a financial instrument. The feminine is sottoscrittrice. In finance it often means 'underwriter'; in publishing, 'subscriber.' It is more formal than abbonato (subscriber to a service).
