Usage Note

Sovietico derives from the Russian word for council (soviet) and refers to the former USSR or its associated culture, politics, and style. It can be used as a noun (un sovietico, a Soviet person) as well as an adjective. The feminine is sovietica, plural sovietici/sovietiche. In contemporary Italian it sometimes carries an ironic or rhetorical charge when describing bureaucratic or authoritarian attitudes.
