to take off (a leap)
Usage Note
Spiccare is most commonly used in the phrase spiccare il volo (to take flight, to spread one's wings) and spiccare un salto (to make a leap). In everyday usage it also means to stand out or be conspicuous (spicca tra la folla, he stands out in the crowd). It takes avere as its auxiliary. Do not confuse with staccare (to detach).
