Usage Note
Stop is used in Italian as an invariable masculine noun — uno stop, gli stop. As a road sign it means a stop sign (rispettare gli stop = 'to obey stop signs'). In informal speech stop! is used as an interjection to mean 'that's enough' or 'end of story' (e stop = 'and that's that'). In older telegraphic Italian, stop was used as a full stop marker between sentences.
