tempo

time

noun TEM-poh Common

Also means

weather

Usage Note

Tempo covers both time in the abstract (non ho tempo = 'I have no time') and the weather (che tempo fa? = 'what's the weather like?'). This double meaning is a classic false-friend trap for English speakers. The plural tempi is regular and common in musical contexts (e.g. tempi moderni).

Examples

"Non ho tempo per farlo."

Natural Translation

I don't have time to do it.
