terminare
to end
verb ter-mee-NAH-reh Less Common
Origin: Latin terminare, from terminus (boundary)
Also means
to terminate
Usage Note
Terminare can be both transitive (terminare il lavoro = 'to finish the work') and intransitive (il film termina alle dieci = 'the film ends at ten'). As an intransitive it takes essere or avere depending on regional usage; avere is safer. More formal than finire.
