Usage Note
Tornante describes a sharp U-shaped curve on a mountain road where the road doubles back on itself. It is the standard Italian term for a switchback or hairpin. The plural is regular: i tornanti. Do not confuse with curva (a simple curve) — a tornante is specifically a near-180° turn.
