Usage Note
Tosse is feminine and invariable in form across contexts; the plural le tossi is rarely used since a bout of coughing is expressed with una tosse (singular). The verb 'to cough' is tossire. A persistent cough is tosse persistente; colpo di tosse means a single coughing fit.
