Usage Note
Vanificare means to render something vain or void — to frustrate an effort, nullify a plan, or undo a result: vanificare i progressi (to undo the progress), vanificare ogni sforzo (to nullify every effort). It takes avere as its auxiliary. More formal than rovinare; commonly found in political and journalistic Italian.
