vizioso

vicious

adjective vee-TSYOH-zoh Rare

Also means

depraved

Usage Note

Vizioso means morally corrupt or addicted to vice, and also describes a logically circular argument — circolo vizioso is the direct Italian equivalent of 'vicious circle'. Note that 'vicious' in English can also mean 'fierce, savage', which Italian renders as feroce or violento, not vizioso. Agrees in gender and number: viziosa, viziosi, viziose.

Examples

"Siamo intrappolati in un circolo vizioso."

Natural Translation

We are trapped in a vicious circle.
