Acquis (invariable; used in full as acquis communautaire) is the entire body of EU legislation, treaties, court rulings, and obligations that candidate countries must adopt before accession. It is a French loanword used without translation across all EU languages. The word is invariable in Italian — l'acquis, gli acquis — and is pronounced with a silent final 's', as in French.
