Usage Note
Affondatore is a rare word, most often a noun for a vessel built to sink others (a ram-ship), and historically a torpedo boat. As an adjective it means 'that sinks' or 'finishing', as in un colpo affondatore ('a decisive, finishing blow'). It derives from affondare ('to sink').
