Usage Note

Aggiudicare is used when a prize, contract, or lot is formally awarded: aggiudicarsi un contratto (to win a contract), aggiudicarsi la vittoria (to claim victory). The reflexive aggiudicarsi is especially common and means 'to win for oneself'. It takes avere in compound tenses.
