andare
to go
verb ahn-DAH-reh Common
Origin: Disputed; possibly from Latin ambulare blended with vadere
Usage Note
Andare takes essere as its auxiliary, so the past participle agrees with the subject — è andato (he went), sono andate (they went, f.). Its present tense is largely irregular: vado, vai, va, andiamo, andate, vanno. The idiomatic va bene (it goes well = OK / alright) is one of the most common phrases in Italian conversation.
Examples
"Vado al mercato ogni sabato."
Natural Translation
I go to the market every Saturday.
Literal Translation
I-go to-the market every Saturday.
