ano

anus

noun AH-noh Rare

Origin: From Latin anus.

Usage Note

Ano is the standard anatomical/medical term for the anus. It is clinical in register; in crude speech Italians use culo. Do not confuse with the Spanish año (year) — the Italian word for year is anno (with a double n). The plural is ani.

Examples

"Il medico ha esaminato la zona dell'ano."

Natural Translation

The doctor examined the anal area.
