Usage Note

Arruolare is used for military conscription and, more broadly, for recruiting people into any organisation. It takes avere as its auxiliary. The reflexive arruolarsi means 'to enlist (oneself)': si è arruolato in marina (he enlisted in the navy). The related noun is l'arruolamento (enlistment).
