asciugare
to dry; to wipe dry
verb ah-shoo-GAH-reh Rare
Origin: Latin exsucare (to extract juice), later exsiccāre
Usage Note
Asciugare takes avere as auxiliary. The reflexive asciugarsi means 'to dry oneself' — asciugarsi i capelli (to dry one's hair), mi sono asciugato le mani (I dried my hands). The adjective asciutto (dry) is related. Note: the 'sc' before 'i' is pronounced 'sh', so asciugare starts with a 'sh' sound: ah-shoo-GAH-reh.
Examples
"Asciuga i piatti con questo canovaccio."
