Usage Note

Associato functions both as adjective (un paese associato = an associated country) and as a noun meaning a member or associate of an organisation (gli associati del club). In academic Italian, professore associato is the rank equivalent to an associate professor. It agrees in gender and number: associata, associati, associate.
