avventurare
to venture
verb ahv-ven-too-RAH-reh Rare
Origin: From avventura ('adventure'), from Medieval Latin adventura, 'thing about to happen.'
Also means
to risk
Usage Note
Avventurare is most commonly used reflexively as avventurarsi ('to venture into, to dare to go') — si è avventurato nel bosco ('he ventured into the forest'). The non-reflexive transitive use ('to risk something') is rarer and more literary. It takes essere in the reflexive form and avere in the transitive.
Examples
"Non mi avventurerei in quel quartiere di notte."
Natural Translation
I wouldn't venture into that neighbourhood at night.
Literal Translation
Not myself I-would-venture into that neighbourhood at night.
