Also means
gas station
Usage Note
Benzinaio primarily means the person who works at a petrol station, but colloquially it is also used for the petrol station itself (andare dal benzinaio = 'to go to the petrol station'). The feminine form benzinaia is used for a female attendant. The word derives from benzina ('petrol/gasoline'). Self-service stations have made the profession rarer but the word remains common.
Examples
"Il benzinaio mi ha controllato anche l'olio."
Natural Translation
The petrol station attendant checked the oil for me too.
Literal Translation
The petrol-attendant to-me checked also the oil.
