Usage Note

Bordura refers to a decorative or functional border — in heraldry, the band around a shield; in gardening, a planted border of flowers or shrubs. It entered Italian from French bordure. The related and more common word bordo means 'edge, rim, board a vehicle' (a bordo, 'on board'). The plural is regular: bordure.
