cappella
chapel
noun kahp-PEL-lah Rare
Origin: From Medieval Latin capella, originally 'the cloak of St Martin', later the shrine housing it.
Usage Note
Cappella means a small chapel or oratory, often within a larger church or palace: la Cappella Sistina. It also gives us the musical term a cappella (sung without instrumental accompaniment), literally 'in the style of the chapel choir'. Do not confuse with capello (m, sg), meaning a single hair.
Examples
"Visitammo una piccola cappella medievale nel borgo."
Natural Translation
We visited a small medieval chapel in the village.
