Usage Note

Capra specifically refers to the female goat; the male is il capro or il becco. The plural is capre. The idiom salvare capra e cavoli ('to save both goat and cabbages') means to satisfy two opposing demands at once — to have it both ways. Capra is also used as a mild insult ('blockhead').
