Usage Note
Cartiera is the factory or mill where paper (carta) is manufactured — not to be confused with cartoleria (stationery shop) or cartoteca (paper archive). The suffix -iera is a productive Italian suffix for places of production or trade. Historically, Italian cartiere (notably in Fabriano, Marche) were among the first in Europe to produce paper, in the 13th century.
