Usage Note

Centigrado means divided into one hundred degrees; it is essentially synonymous with Celsius in everyday use. In Italy temperatures are always given in gradi centigradi (degrees centigrade). The feminine is centigrada. In scientific writing Celsius is now preferred, but centigrado remains common in speech.
