cervello
brain
noun cher-VEL-loh Less Common
Origin: From Latin cerebellum (little brain).
Also means
brains (intelligence)
Usage Note
Cervello is masculine (il cervello). Its plural is notably irregular: the standard anatomical/literal plural is i cervelli, but the collective sense ('brains, grey matter') uses the feminine le cervella. È il cervello dell'operazione means 'he's the mastermind of the operation'. The 'c' before 'e' gives the 'ch' sound.
Examples
"Il cervello umano è un organo straordinario."
Natural Translation
The human brain is an extraordinary organ.
