condoglianza
condolence
noun kon-doh-LYAHN-tsah Rare
Origin: From Latin condolentia, from condolere (to grieve together).
Usage Note
Condoglianza is almost always used in the plural—le condoglianze—just as English uses 'condolences'. The standard formula is fare le condoglianze a qualcuno (to offer condolences to someone) or le mie più sentite condoglianze (my deepest condolences). Using the singular alone sounds stilted.
Examples
"Le mie condoglianze per la perdita di tuo padre."
Natural Translation
My condolences for the loss of your father.
