constare
to consist of
verb kohn-STAH-reh Rare
Origin: Latin constare (to stand together, be evident)
Also means
to be established
Usage Note
Constare appears in two constructions: constare di (to consist of, be made up of) and the impersonal consta che (it is established that / it is on record that). The latter is common in legal and formal writing. Do not confuse with costare (to cost), which sounds similar but means price.
Examples
"Il contratto consta di dieci articoli."
Natural Translation
The contract consists of ten articles.
