contento

happy, pleased, satisfied

adjective kohn-TEN-toh Rare

Origin: From Latin contentus (contained, satisfied).

Usage Note

Contento expresses a warm, personal happiness or satisfaction — more subjective and emotional than felice (happy in a deeper or more formal sense). Sono contento di vederti ('I'm glad to see you') is natural in conversation. The construction is contento di + infinitive or noun. Do not confuse with English 'content' meaning written/visual material (contenuto in Italian).

Examples

"Sono molto contento del risultato."

Natural Translation

I am very pleased with the result.

Literal Translation

I-am very pleased of-the result.
