credibile

credible, believable

adjective kreh-DEE-bee-leh Rare

Usage Note

Credibile applies to persons, stories, or sources that can be believed. Its antonym is incredibile. Invariable for gender; plural: credibili. Note that credibile means 'believable' (can be believed), not 'gullible' — a false-friend trap for English speakers who might confuse the Italian and English.

Examples

"La sua testimonianza non è credibile."

Natural Translation

His testimony is not credible.
