debutto

debut; first appearance

noun deh-BOOT-toh Rare

Origin: French début (beginning, first move)

Usage Note

Debutto is a direct borrowing from French début. It is used for an artist's first performance, a politician's first speech, or a product's launch. The related verb is debuttare. Unlike English, Italian doubled the 't' on adoption: debutto, not debuto.
