Usage Note

Destare means to arouse or stir (curiosity, suspicion, or interest) in a slightly formal register: destare sospetti (to arouse suspicion), destare interesse (to arouse interest). Reflexively, destarsi means 'to wake up' and is a literary synonym of svegliarsi. The non-reflexive 'awaken' sense is mostly poetic in modern usage.
