diametro
diameter
noun dee-AH-meh-troh Rare
Origin: From Greek diametros, from dia- (across) + metron (measure).
Usage Note
Diametro has antepenultimate stress: dee-AH-meh-troh — do not stress the MEH as English speakers tend to. The plural is i diametri. Do not confuse it with the adjective diametrale or the adverb diametralmente (diametralmente opposto = diametrically opposed).
Examples
"Il tubo ha un diametro di cinque centimetri."
Natural Translation
The pipe has a diameter of five centimetres.
