dopotutto

after all

adverb doh-poh-TOOT-toh Rare

Usage Note

Dopotutto (also written dopo tutto as two words) is used to introduce a concessive remark — 'when all is said and done, when you think about it'. It often signals a logical conclusion or a softening of a previous statement, equivalent to English 'after all' or 'all things considered'. It is placed at the beginning or end of a clause.

Examples

"Dopotutto, ha fatto del suo meglio."

Natural Translation

After all, she did her best.
