Dott. is the standard written abbreviation for dottore / dottoressa — the title given to any Italian university graduate (not just medical doctors). Dott. Rossi on an envelope or nameplate simply means the person holds a degree. For a female graduate the abbreviation Dott.ssa is used. In speech the full dottore / dottoressa is always pronounced.
