Usage Note
Eccessivamente modifies adjectives or verbs to indicate an excess: è eccessivamente prudente (he is excessively cautious). It is formed regularly from eccessivo + -mente. In speech, Italians often prefer the more colloquial troppo (too much/too), reserving eccessivamente for written and formal registers.
Examples
"Ha reagito eccessivamente alla critica."
Natural Translation
He reacted excessively to the criticism.
