Ecologista functions both as a noun (an environmentalist activist or scientist) and as an adjective (partito ecologista — green party). Its grammatical gender follows the person or noun it modifies: un ecologista / un'ecologista. Do not confuse with ecologico (ecological, descriptive of a process or product).
