ecologico
ecological, eco-friendly
adjective eh-koh-LOH-jee-koh Less Common
Origin: From Greek 'oikos' (house, environment) + 'logos' (study).
Usage Note
Ecologico can mean 'relating to ecology' (the science) or, in everyday Italian, 'environmentally friendly' — roughly equivalent to English 'eco-friendly' or 'green': prodotto ecologico (eco-friendly product), disastro ecologico (ecological disaster). The noun ecologia (ecology) and the informal ecologista (environmentalist) are related. Do not confuse with biologico (organic), which refers specifically to organic farming.
Examples
"Preferisce i prodotti ecologici."
Natural Translation
He prefers eco-friendly products.
